Evaluation of occupational risks and study of methods in the process of elaboration of cigar "Joya de Nicaragua Antaño" in the Tabacalera Joya de Nicaragua S.A, Estelí

Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to evaluate the occupational risks and the methods used in the production of the "Joya de Nicaragua Antaño" cigar at Tabacalera Joya de Nicaragua S.A. The main objective was to describe the generalities of the company, understand its operation, identify the occupational risks in each job and develop an action plan to mitigate them, in addition to proposing a new work method to increase productivity. Different methods were used such as direct observation, check list, surveys and interviews to identify the risks and it was determined that static postures, forced postures and repetitive movements were the most common in the work areas, for these preventive measures were established through an action plan. The cigar making process was also recorded in detail using diagrams, which made it possible to find areas for improvement, such as eliminating the diameter measurement inspection carried out by the rollers. In addition, the need to replace the seats used in the production area with ergonomic chairs was detected to improve the comfort and health of employees. The cost-benefit analysis showed that the new method would increase daily productivity by 9.42% compared to the current method, supporting the desirability of implementing these improvements and demonstrating their potential benefits.
