  • Vol. 14 No. 2 (2024)

    The publication of volume 14, number 2 of the science and technology journal El Higo, represents an effort to disseminate scientific research in our region. On this occasion, a total of 15 high quality articles have been compiled from renowned institutions in Nicaragua, Ecuador, Colombia, Honduras, Cuba, Mexico and Peru. The studies presented in this issue cover a wide range of disciplines, including agricultural and agroindustrial technologies, educational quality, process engineering, business management, environmental sciences, as well as design and construction. This variety of topics reflects the journal's commitment to promoting interdisciplinarity and fostering collaboration among researchers from different areas of knowledge.

    The scientific journal El Higo is an online, peer-reviewed publication, duly indexed, with free and open access to scientific production.

    This year, the journal is incorporated into the Periodical database (natural and exact sciences) of the Latin American Bibliography (Biblat), a portal specialized in scientific and academic journals published in Latin America and the Caribbean. This achievement is a reflection of the journal's constant commitment to the dissemination of high quality scientific knowledge.

This year, the journal of Science and Technology El Higo was added to Dialnet, which “is one of the largest bibliographic portals in the world, whose main purpose is to give greater visibility to the Hispanic scientific literature”.

    The scientific journal El Higo edited from the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería Sede Regional UNI Norte, Estelí Nicaragua, is an online publication, refereed, is duly indexed, free and open access of scientific production. This year the journal of Science and Technology El Higo is added to DOAJ, which is a unique and extensive index of various open access journals from around the world, driven by a growing community, committed to ensuring that quality content is freely available online for everyone.

    With volume twelve, number two of the Journal of Science and Technology El Higo dedicates a special edition to the Research Program, National Studies and Environmental Services (PIENSA). A program attached to the Vice-Rectory of Research and Development of the National University of Engineering (UNI). UNI PIENSA began in 1984 as a Master's Program in Environmental Engineering (INGAM) as an initiative between the Nicaraguan Institute of Aqueducts and Sewerage (INAA), PAHO/WHO and UNI for the training of engineers in the water and sanitation sector.

    The tenth volume, number two of the Journal of Science and Technology El Higo, represents a continuity of the commitment to disseminate scientific and technological work, exposing the scientific community and the general population, information from ten research papers on the topics of engineering, educational quality and agribusiness, the authors are international and national professionals, The participation of teachers and students from the National University of Engineering of Nicaragua, the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua - Managua, the Higher Agricultural Polytechnic School of Manabí Manuel Félix López of Ecuador, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Zaragoza, Spain and the National Autonomous University of Honduras, at the Northeastern Regional Center.

The topics are agribusiness and engineering, the target audience are: researchers, teachers and students.

    Following up on the commitment adopted by UNI-RUACS through El Higo Magazine to disseminate local scientific and technological work, volume six presents to the scientific community and the general population all the processes used to transfer and disseminate science. The works presented were developed by local researchers, teachers and students, aimed at contributing to the development of the northern region of Nicaragua.

    The content of this issue of El Higo Magazine is presented only in digital form and is again, a clear manifestation of the social and environmental commitment of the educational community of the National University of Engineering with our country and the region.

    This fifth volume 2015 of the Journal of Science and Technology of UNI - North Regional Headquarters, El Higo, presents part of the work of our university community, exposes the information emanating from research projects in which the results of months and even years of work are condensed, leading to the description of experiences with their findings, aimed at disseminating the knowledge generated.

    In 2005 the Northern Regional Headquarters of the National University of Engineering was opened in the city of Estelí, Nicaragua. In February 2009, with the need to show what we were doing in research, we published in print our first volume of the magazine El Higo, taking the name of the magazine from the place where the headquarters is located. In 2014, with volume 4 of the El Higo Journal, we marked a new milestone in the development of the journal, not only did we substantially improve the quality of the journal, but we are publishing this issue simultaneously in digital and printed form. This issue presents the results of research carried out by teachers and students of the university, on topics oriented to the management of waste from the coffee industry, dairy products and leachates from garbage. All these works have a great transversal axis, to protect our environment and most of them generate simple technological proposals, true innovations applicable to our context, which has so many needs and so few resources.

    Publishing the fourth issue of the Journal of Science and Technology of UNI - North Regional Headquarters, is a milestone for us, this if we consider that it is the second issue published in 2012; a year that has been marked by success for our university community, which has been able to carry out relevant research and therefore deserve to be made known to the region, so that the work developed continues to exert positive impacts on the environment. With this new effort we are again in compliance with our Institutional Educational Model that tells us that we must promote “the development of scientific, technological, educational, social and cultural research, to contribute to the scientific debate, to the renewal of knowledge for the transformation of the country for the benefit of society and the environment”. Thus, once again we reaffirm with tangible results that research is a fundamental pillar in the formation of integral professionals of the National University of Engineering.

    Its objective is to disseminate unpublished articles generated from research of scientific technological character, carried out at national and international level. The topics are agribusiness and engineering and the target audience are: researchers, teachers and university students.

    The linkage of the university with the productive sectors and private and public services is strategic, because they are primary sources of research needs. This can be achieved by generating a very close relationship based on mutual benefits, from joint work that allows the necessary trust to promote useful research to the demanding sectors. With UNI's new Institutional Educational Model, it is essential to redefine our relations with the aforementioned sectors, according to the aforementioned logic. But we definitely need to define an institutional policy on research in the institution, as well as to efficiently disseminate to those who should know the progress and final results of these investigations, through media that have the required coverage.
