This study investigates how the presence of informal commerce influences the way people walk and move around the Central Neighborhood of the cantonal seat of La Joya de los Sachas in the Orellana Province, Ecuador. The objective was to measure the degree of urban and pedestrian mobility, as well as the acceptance or comfort level regarding the occupation of public space by informal commerce in the Central Neighborhood of the cantonal seat of La Joya de los Sachas during the period February-March 2025, through a comprehensive research process of the study area to demonstrate its impact. This was achieved through a study that included a combination of surveys of residents, pedestrians, and merchants, as well as interviews with municipal officials. The results show that 87% of respondents consider that informal commerce negatively affects pedestrian mobility, while 62% report feeling unsafe walking in areas occupied by vendors. 65% agree that solutions should be found to balance commerce and safe circulation. The entire study concludes that a balanced solution is needed that maintains trade, but also improves the well-being of the people who live or visit the area.Downloads
